MEGAN NAYLOR

Bachelor of Design in Architecture

18.06.95

In architectural practice it is essential for one to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. As her work takes place on unceded land, Megan continually extends respect to their Elders past and present and extends that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Megan’s completion of a Bachelor of Design in Architecture at UTS was driven by her belief that to pursue a ecologically balanced and fruitful existence, a community must shift the means in which they behave within and connect to the world around them. She saw nothing more tangible and influential on ones daily practices than the built form in which they take place. She seeks to distill this ethos within her works - hoping to repair the symbiotic relation between human and environ.

Megan’s aesthetic stems from her belief that human habit and ritual, the natural environment and functionalist construction modes should remain at the essence of architectural design. She seeks to form a minimalist seedbed upon which expressions of person, place and time may bloom. Experimentation with themes of abstraction, reinterpretation and surrealism comforted by an ever-appreciated sense of nostalgia remain an undercurrent of her design exploration. She feels it is from these elements, in conjunction with thoughtful and thorough detailing, lasting architecture may emerge.

Her unique pathway into the industry has fostered her wholistic understanding of the built environment. Working within a small practice [2015 to present] throughout her education [2014 to 2019], Megan’s understanding of the practical elements of construction developed cohesively with her pursuit of progressive and creative thinking. She has contributed to the design and documentation of a myriad of projects including bespoke residential new builds and renovations, commercial new builds and renovations [hospitality, retail, workspaces], heritage refurbishments, interior design [residential, hospitality, retail, workspaces], education, healthcare, industrial new builds and masterplans, aviation and sporting  equestrian, tennis, netball, hockey and football].
